Paramus Schools Recycling Bag Contest
CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE ENTRIES

To the schools of Paramus,

The Paramus Environmental Commission is establishing an initiative in town to reduce the amount of disposable plastic bags used by consumers. Our timing is perfect since recently the Bergen Record has had articles related to reusable bags and pending legislation requiring merchants to charge a fee for bags.

We would like to ask students from the Paramus school district to participate in a contest to draw a picture to be placed on a reusable shopping bag. The picture design should be related to environmental protection and the three Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle. If each school in town would submit three pictures for consideration, the Commission will select one winner among the submissions, which will be placed on a reusable shopping bag and distributed at our Earth Day event on April 28th, 2013. All the submitted pictures will be posted on the Paramus Environmental Commission's web site, www.paramusec.org, for the community to view.

Our goal is not only to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags but also to bring awareness to the community of what the Paramus Environmental Commission's web site has to offer. Our web site provides current information related to town events, our annual scholarship application, and helpful hints on how to reduce environmental waste.

This contest will help forge a relationship between Paramus' Environmental Commission and the school district in an effort to expose our students to local commission activities. We look forward to your assistance in supporting this initiative and encouraging your students to submit their original artwork for consideration.

Please forward any questions to Jean Payoczkowski of the Environmental Commission. Pictures need to be submitted to Jean Payoczkowski at jpayoczkowski@paramusborough.org in .pdf format no later than March 4, 2013 for consideration.

Thank you,

Inge DiPasquale
